Upcoming SGA Elections
The Student Government Association (SGA) at CU Denver is gearing up for elections for the fall 2026 term, which are set to take place this spring. SGA, composed of approximately 20 elected student members across five committees, plays a crucial role in representing the interests of CU Denver students.
Members of SGA are compensated for their service, which lasts for one academic year. The organization has been actively involved in initiatives that impact student life, including the successful passage of a Mental Health and Wellbeing Fee in a student vote in 2025.
Student Government Day at the State Capitol
On March 6, 2026, nine leaders from Arkansas Tech University (ATU) participated in the Student Government Day at the State Capitol in Little Rock, Arkansas. This event provided an opportunity for student leaders to engage directly with state officials, including Secretary of State Cole Jester and Arkansas Supreme Court Justice Nicholas Bronni.
Accompanied by Jaime Land and Kevin Solomon, the ATU student leaders expressed the importance of learning from established figures in government. Jared Bynum, a member of SGA, reflected on his experience, stating, “I showed up thinking I was going to find a community, but really I have gotten an opportunity to challenge myself to be a better leader.”
Carla Gutierrez, another SGA member, shared her sentiments, saying, “It makes you feel good that you are bringing something to the campus.” Such experiences not only enhance leadership skills but also foster a sense of community among students.
Carson Smith noted the value of hearing the stories of state officials, emphasizing how these narratives can influence students’ educational and professional paths. Fernando Flores remarked, “Our time there was about learning about the opportunities that Arkansas government holds.” This engagement underscores the significance of student involvement in governance and civic responsibility.
As SGA prepares for its upcoming elections and continues to support initiatives that benefit the student body, the involvement of student leaders in events like Student Government Day highlights the importance of advocacy and representation in higher education.
