NJ Transit Services Disrupted by Storms and Power Issues

What impact did the recent storms have on NJ Transit services? NJ Transit rail service was suspended on the North Jersey Coast and Morris & Essex train lines due to overhead power issues caused by severe weather conditions.

The service on both lines resumed around 6 a.m. after being suspended at 5 a.m. The storms resulted in over 30,000 customers being without power, significantly affecting daily commuters and travel plans.

Wind gusts reached as high as 71 mph at Newark Liberty International Airport, contributing to the disruption. In addition to the rail service suspension, there were 18 canceled departures from the airport due to the adverse weather.

The storms also caused road closures throughout New Jersey, toppling trees and bringing down power lines. Utility companies, including JCP&L, PSE&G, and Atlantic City Electric, were engaged in restoring power to affected customers.

In a separate development, NJ Transit announced it will pay a $9 million settlement to six former employees for harassment claims. Each of the six women will receive $1.5 million as part of the settlement.

The recent storms have highlighted the vulnerabilities in infrastructure and services during extreme weather events. As NJ Transit works to restore full service and address the aftermath of the storms, the focus will also be on ensuring the safety and reliability of their operations moving forward.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the damage and the timeline for complete restoration of services. NJ Transit is expected to provide updates as the situation evolves.
