Msp airport: Significant Flight Cancellations at Due to Winter Storm

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is facing a major disruption as hundreds of flights have been canceled due to a severe winter storm affecting the region. The storm has brought heavy snow and blizzard conditions, leading to significant travel issues across Minnesota and the upper Midwest.

As of 1 p.m. on Sunday, there were 343 canceled arrival flights and 375 canceled departure flights at MSP, contributing to a total of 626 flight cancellations since the storm began. The airport was described as a “ghost town” by FOX 9’s Mike Manzoni, with many travelers stranded or unable to reach their destinations.

By 5 p.m. Sunday, the situation worsened, with 346 flights arriving and 381 flights departing canceled. The heavy snowfall, combined with winds reaching 30 to 50 mph, has created hazardous travel conditions throughout the state.

Major airlines, including Delta, Sun Country, American Airlines, and United Airlines, have issued waivers for affected flights, allowing passengers to change their travel plans without incurring additional fees. However, with only 69 flights scheduled to depart on time and 105 expected to arrive on time, many travelers are left uncertain about their travel arrangements.

The storm, which began Saturday evening, has effectively ended what some referred to as a “fake spring” in the area. As the situation continues to develop, further cancellations are expected, and travelers are advised to stay updated on their flight statuses.

More than 660 total cancellations have occurred since the storm’s onset, highlighting the widespread impact of the winter weather. Details remain unconfirmed as the storm progresses and the situation evolves.
