“Gathering weekly in every class helps deepen gospel learning by connecting it more closely to personal and family study,” stated President Paul V. Johnson, reflecting the LDS Church’s commitment to enhancing spiritual education among its members. This statement comes as the First Presidency announced adjustments to the Sunday class meeting schedule, which will take effect on September 6, 2026.
Under the new schedule, Sunday School and quorum meetings will be held each week, with each session lasting 25 minutes. This change marks a significant shift from the previous structure, where meetings were less frequent. The sacrament meeting will remain at 60 minutes, while Primary classes will continue to run for 55 minutes every Sunday. These adjustments are designed to support members in becoming lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ.
The changes are not merely logistical; they aim to strengthen gospel learning both in homes and congregations. The church had previously implemented a two-hour Sunday schedule in January 2019, which provided increased opportunities for home-centered gospel study. The upcoming modifications build on this foundation, encouraging a more consistent and engaging learning environment.
President Camille N. Johnson emphasized the importance of regular gatherings, stating, “There is additive strength that comes when we meet each week to counsel, learn, and support one another.” This sentiment highlights the church’s focus on community and mutual support as essential components of spiritual growth.
In addition to the new meeting schedule, the church will introduce the “For the Strength of Youth” guide as the curriculum for Young Women classes and Aaronic Priesthood quorums starting September 6, 2026. This guide, which consists of 12 chapters, is designed to help youth navigate the complexities of modern life with confidence and hope. President Timothy L. Farnes remarked, “This guide will help youth walk in confidence, rely on His power, and move forward with hope in a challenging world.”
Weekly Relief Society and elders quorum meetings will also focus on messages from the most recent general conference, ensuring that teachings remain relevant and timely. Members are encouraged to seek meaningful ways to enrich their worship experience during sacrament meeting, fostering a deeper connection to their faith.
As the church prepares for these changes, the fifth Sunday in August 2026 will be dedicated to preparation and discussion among youth, their parents, and their leaders. This proactive approach aims to ensure that all members are well-informed and engaged in the transition.
Members across the world have embraced these changes with faith and enthusiasm, reflecting a collective commitment to spiritual growth and community engagement. As the LDS Church moves forward with these adjustments, the focus remains on fostering a deeper understanding of the gospel and enhancing the overall worship experience.
