Flood Warning Issued for Multiple Regions Amid Heavy Rainfall

Flood Warnings Across Multiple States

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” warned the National Weather Service (NWS) as flash flood warnings were issued for several regions, including Macon County in Illinois, Branch and St. Joseph counties in Indiana, and North Texas.

The NWS reported that a Flash Flood Warning is currently in effect for parts of Macon County, Illinois, until 7 a.m. CDT Wednesday. Approximately 1.5 to 2 inches of rain had already fallen in the area, with an additional inch expected around Decatur, Illinois. Flooding was notably reported near Water and Main Streets in downtown Decatur, prompting officials to alert residents to the potential dangers.

In North Texas, a flash flood warning was issued for Tarrant, Denton, Dallas, and Collin counties, set to last until 3 a.m. This warning comes as heavy rainfall has saturated the ground, increasing the risk of flooding in urban areas where drainage may be inadequate.

Meanwhile, in Indiana, the NWS issued a flood warning for Branch and St. Joseph counties at 9:28 p.m. on March 10. Minor flooding is forecast for the Saint Joseph River at Three Rivers, which is expected to rise above the flood stage of 7 feet early tomorrow afternoon, reaching a projected height of 7.3 feet. As of 8:45 p.m. EDT Tuesday, the river stage was recorded at 6.9 feet, indicating a concerning trend as water levels continue to rise.

Officials emphasize the importance of heeding the NWS’s advice regarding flooded roads. The agency highlights that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles, underscoring the critical nature of safety during such weather events. Flash flooding can occur rapidly, particularly near small creeks and streams, along highways and streets, around underpasses, and in areas that do not drain well.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay informed about the weather conditions and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The NWS continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

As the situation develops, it is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and prepared for potential evacuations or road closures. The community’s safety depends on awareness and adherence to the warnings issued by local authorities and the NWS.
