What changes are being made to Fortnite’s in-game currency?
Epic Games is raising the price of Fortnite’s in-game currency, V-Bucks, to help cover rising operational costs. This change will take effect at the start of the next battle royale season on March 19, 2026.
The adjustments will see the $8.99 pack now offering 800 V-Bucks instead of the previous 1,000. Similarly, the $22.99 pack will now provide 2,400 V-Bucks down from 2,800, while the $36.99 pack will decrease from 5,000 to 4,500 V-Bucks. The largest pack, priced at $89.99, will now offer 12,500 V-Bucks instead of 13,500.
Players subscribed to the monthly Fortnite Crew membership will also see a reduction in their V-Bucks, receiving 800 instead of 1,000. This price increase comes as Epic Games acknowledges that “the cost of running Fortnite has gone up a lot.”
What is happening with Fortnite Save the World?
In addition to the V-Bucks price hike, Epic Games has announced that Fortnite Save the World will transition to a free-to-play model on April 16, 2026. This move is expected to welcome a larger player base across various platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Sales of the current version of Save the World will conclude on March 11, 2026, at 8:00 PM ET. Existing players who purchased the game will continue to enjoy their founder’s benefits, which include V-Bucks and special bundles containing in-game items.
However, it is important to note that the original Nintendo Switch and mobile devices will not support Save the World due to technical limitations. Epic Games confirmed that “the building and AI functions need technical resources which those devices lack.”
After the transition, players will still have opportunities to earn V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, and Storm Shield Defense missions.
