Cole Strange Signs with the Los Angeles Chargers
Cole Strange has agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Chargers on a two-year contract worth $13 million. This signing comes as the Chargers are overhauling their interior offensive line after losing both starting guards.
Strange, a former first-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2022, played 14 games last season for the Miami Dolphins, all as a starter. Throughout his career, he has participated in 44 games, with 43 of those being starts. Most of his playing time has come at left guard, where he has logged 1,546 snaps, in addition to 808 snaps at right guard and 117 snaps at center.
Strange’s journey began at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he was a five-year starter and became the highest-drafted player in the history of his college program. However, his career faced a setback when he suffered a torn patellar tendon in late 2023, leading to his release by the Patriots before the start of his third season.
The Chargers also recently signed center Tyler Biadasz to a three-year, $30 million deal, further indicating their commitment to strengthening their offensive line. This move reunites Strange with coach Mike McDaniel, who previously coached him in Miami.
Observers expect Strange to be in the mix for a starting guard job as the Chargers look to implement new blocking schemes under McDaniel’s direction. McDaniel obviously identified Strange as a needed piece while he looks to install his new strategies.
As the Chargers prepare for the upcoming season, the addition of Strange could play a pivotal role in their offensive line’s performance. Details remain unconfirmed regarding how the team plans to utilize him in their lineup.
