Impact of the Forum
The MSU-IIT Project CLIMA recently convened more than 150 participants for an online forum focused on climate action, titled “From Civic Duty to Climate Action: Your Role Matters.” This event was significant not only for its attendance but also for its emphasis on the critical role of women’s leadership in addressing climate issues.
Keynote Address
Keynote speaker Cris Gel Loui A. Arcadio highlighted the pressing threat of microplastic pollution, which has emerged as a global environmental concern. Arcadio referred to mangrove forests as “natural climate defenders,” underscoring their importance in combating climate change.
Women’s Leadership in Climate Action
The forum placed a strong emphasis on the importance of women’s leadership in climate action, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, SDG 5 promotes gender equality and women’s leadership, while SDG 13 focuses on climate action and community engagement.

Additionally, SDG 14 addresses marine pollution, including the issue of microplastics, which was a key topic during the discussions. The participants were encouraged to engage actively in solutions to these pressing environmental challenges.
Protecting Ecosystems
Furthermore, SDG 15 emphasizes the protection of ecosystems, such as mangrove conservation, which was highlighted by Arcadio during the event. This reflects a broader commitment to environmental sustainability and the preservation of biodiversity.
Organizational Collaboration
The event was organized in partnership with the National Service Training Program (NSTP) and the Gender and Development (GAD) office of MSU-IIT, showcasing a collaborative effort to address climate issues through education and community involvement.
