Ashley Fisler Arrested for Sexual Assault of a Student

Ashley A. Fisler, a 36-year-old former teacher at Orchard Valley Middle School, has been arrested and is facing serious charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a student. The charges, announced by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, include eight counts, with six being first-degree sexual assault of a minor. This case has raised significant concerns regarding the safety and well-being of students within educational institutions.

The investigation into Fisler began after the victim, now an adult, reported an unlawful sexual relationship on January 23, 2026. According to the victim’s account, the alleged sexual encounters took place in Fisler’s vehicle and within her classroom during the year 2021. Investigators corroborated the victim’s claims by uncovering text messages exchanged between Fisler and the victim.

In light of these allegations, Fisler is currently being held in the Salem County Jail, with her first court hearing scheduled for March 27, 2026. Each first-degree charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, while the second-degree charges could result in up to 10 years behind bars.

The Washington Township School District has expressed its commitment to student safety. Superintendent Eric M. Hibbs stated, “The district is aware of the charges announced by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office regarding a former middle school teacher. We take matters involving the safety and well-being of our students extremely seriously.” This sentiment is echoed by local parents and community members, who have expressed shock and concern over the proximity of such incidents.

Local parent Eric Sebastian remarked, “Scary, you know you hear about it in Florida or somewhere. This is too close to us, literally right across the street.” Another resident, Olivia Axelrod, shared her disbelief, stating, “Honestly it’s unbelievable to even think that could happen and also nobody saw it, you know. It’s horrible.”

Fisler’s employment with the Washington Township School District ended in April 2023, prior to the allegations surfacing. The investigation was conducted by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Washington Township Police Department, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in addressing such serious allegations.

As the case unfolds, the community remains on edge, grappling with the implications of these charges and the need for vigilance in ensuring student safety. Details remain unconfirmed as further developments are anticipated in the coming days.
