Hotel Proposed For Site By Adrian College Campus

The debate at time got raucous, but at this week’s meeting of the Adrian City Council a plan to sell Lot 12 in the city’s industrial park to a hotel developer was approved by a 5-2 vote.

The 3.8 acre property was purchased for $1 by a group under the name of Lenawee Hospitality llc, represented at the meeting by Ken MacLaren who is part of the management team at the Wingate by Wyndham Hotel in Sylvania, Ohio. The deal is part of a proposal for the construction of a $6 million hotel that will stand across from Adrian College.

In reporting about the deal, Adrian Mayor Jim Berryman explained the proposal was first brought to him about two weeks before the council meeting. As part of the arrangement the council approved a resolution allowing the college to assign its interest in the property to the hotel developer.

Details about the hotel have not been reported or entered into the public record. A site plan apparently has not been filed. The property has stood vacant for decades and support for a new hotel in the city reportedly is strong.
