Revamping Scheduled For Historic Grand Rapids Building

A $3.5 million plan to renovate and improve the 124 year old building at 25 Ottawa Street SW, across the street from the Van Andel Arena was announced this week in Grand Rapids.

The six story, 107,500 square foot building, formerly known as the Arena Station, was recently acquired by Franklin Partners LLC, Chicago, Illinois. When the new project is finished the firm plans to re-name the structure as the “Twenty 5” building.

On the drawings is a four story glass exterior facade, a new lobby with a two story atrium, and a fitness center. The building is connected to the arena by a skywalk on the second level. Interior finishes in common areas are also to be improved. A new retail space is to be provided on the first floor.

Serving as project architect is Wright Heerema Architects, Chicago, Illinois. The construction manager is Owen-Ames-Kimball Company, Grand Rapids, with work expected to start in the fall. Completion is anticipated in June 2015.
